I'd do just as my mother did. Go on living.

My father was off to flight school in early 1942 and there was no guarantee he would live through the war, so he told my mother if he didn't live or she met someone else, he would be ok with it. Happily, he survived, returned home and they were married for 59 years until his death.

While he was gone, my mother dated other men, went to dances and concerts and enjoyed herself. What else could she do? She did write my father every other day or so, and kept him in her heart. He was happy that she was having fun.

Well, that sounds like a blunt way of saying it's over. I'd more than likely tell him to make sure the door hits him in the furry azz on the way out!! :P

Go away like where- prison? If that were the case, then I'd say ok, no problem. But if he had to go for some other reason, "ouch".

The essence would be that I appreciate their concern, but the decision to wait is mine.
