Driving to Seattle from Bay Area, CA?

I'm planning to move to Seattle at the end of this month. I'm wondering if the drive from SF to Seattle is gonna be snowy, and do i need chains? and do i need chains to go around the city?

it is inter states highway 5,only a few mountains section, it doesn't get snow often, maybe some ice in early morning, no chains needed in freeway.
