"Twas the night before Christmas and all round my hips
Were Fannie May candies that sneaked past my lips.
Fudge brownies were stored in the freezer with care
In hopes that my thighs would forget they were there."

What is the night before Christmas like in your home?Traditions?

My daughter and I each write a Christmas story, and then we vote for 'Best Story' whoever wins gets to open any one gift on Christmas Eve. I usually let the wookie win.

Twas the eve before Christmas'
and all through the net,
addicts were typing,
-- they hadn't checked the date yet.

with maw doin popcorn and crosswords,
and me on the mouse,
had just ousted the rug rats, and to ourselves,
had control of the house.

When out on the lawn there arose such a racket,
I grabbed the dogs leash,
& shot gun
whilst donning my jacket.

And what to my blue-shot eyes
should come with some consternation,
but all those dang rednecks and hillbillies
-- all of the wifes relation.

Through the doors and windows
they all come a bursting,
twas the end of my exquisite wines,
for granpap said they were all thirsting.

The foolish old fogey was bear greasy
and quick,
there was never a doubt he was full
of the old Nick.

He stagger to the chimney,
up his butt stuck his thumb,
and rose like a flash
and left us awed and quite dumb.

His entourage too departed with haste
but not before abscounding with
all food and booze,
without leaving a taste.

Into the '67 Country Squire they all
loaded their fat butts
and off they shook and rattled
like a can full off nuts

On clem and clyde, bubba and Ralph
if I'd wanted to dally,
I'd a done the
driving myself.

I heard them exclaim as they almost
cleared the wall
Let's hustle to Granny Ednas'
she's made moonshine for us all.

I had a sort of little house on the praire childhood, and we had no money, every christmas was centered around the church and we had a special program on christmas eve. Some years we didn't even have that. But I have learned to appreciate my upbringing, I don't have memories of a drunken father who beat everybody, and it did make for good health as an adult. I'm good with the trade off.

It has always been the tradition in my family to open the presents on Christmas Eve ( I think my parents wanted to sleep in ) and we have hot plum pudding with hot vanilla cream sauce because we are too full on Christmas Day for anything after the turkey.

I like it! That's cute. I love Christmas stories. Our local paper has a special section every year devoted to an original Christmas story written by a staff member. They have some very good imaginative writers.
