India frankly have no chance. Theoretically SA could already be no.1 if they had played enough Tests. They have the highest win ratio. England have played 137 matches and have rating of 125, but SA have only played 21 matches but have a rating of 118. So not having played enough matches might actually mean SA not reaching the top spot again. Both Australia and India have some climbing up to do. All three teams SA, Australia and India play Tests series against each other soon. The series between Australia and India will be most crucial in providing some insights who might reach no.3, hence challenge SA and England for no.1 spot. I do think though a certain period of few months should be set before updating the rankings, that way most teams have had a chance to play couple of Test series at least. Maybe even try to schedule reasonably equal no. of Test matches. At the moment SA have the greatest chance of reaching no.1 spot.
