Contractions feel like menstrual cramps, only a million times worse. They come and go, and you need to time them. It sounds like you need to call your doctor NOW.

well you just answered your own question.

contractions start usually in the lower abdomen and feel like period pain in the same spot you would get period pain. It is the same as period pain because it is your uterus contractin the same as it does during your period.

But the way you know if its labour is if the pain comes and goes but gets closer together in time, lasts for longer and get stronger in intensity.

If the pain is constant and doesn't go away at all its not labour. Also rule out bad wind/gas as sometimes people mistake it for labour pains.m

If you have any sort of persistant pain then you should always call your midwife, hospital or doctor to notify them. Don't panic, they will tell you what to do next.

Good luck! If it is labour then start walking around to encourage the baby into the birth canal! Gravity is your friend right now!!!

best of luck

If you feel pain you can't handle call! IF they get regular ( and start timing) then call and go in! The beginning you can feel the pain but not so much of the tightining until they get stronger and closer together. When you start to have the pain poke your belly alittle to see if there is any give. But if you are feeling pain and you are close to your due date I would say you are probably going into the first stages of labor but maybe not active labor. Congrats......

*edit
I think that you should call if they don't go away. you are close enough to be in labor. But remember if you are not dialated past around five they will send you home but try to tough it out unitl they get regular OR they are unberarable. How excitingl!!! Let us know or at least me if you have that little guy! :)_

My contractions started off like a normal period cramp pain, and slowly progressed until they were almost unbearable. I could not feel them come and go, it was almost EXACTLY like a long, hard period cramp.. it sounds to me like you are having contractions! Congratulations! I wish it was me..I'm due any day and waiting for the cramps to start!
