Laid Back is a fool. So is Acer. They both mention nothing to solve your problem. Your computer can handle up to 4 GB of RAM. It has 2 DIMM slots and each can have 2 GB of DDR2. Acer gives no recommendation on their site as to which memory to use. I would just go with a reliable brand and hope for the best.

After bowsing newegg.com a bit I see that you have a couple of options.

You could get 512mb and fill your slots and see very little performance boost.

You could buy a couple of 1 GB sticks and fill up your slots and see a major jump.

You could get a single 2 GB stick and see the same jump or

You could get 2 2 GB sticks and have a faster computer than all of your friends.

The difference is price. Tell me what to spend and I will give you a link.

I have an Acer as well, and my understanding with slots for RAM is that there are only two available, thus it could support 2 gigs. There are 2x2 = 4 gigs available too.

Always go with Kisngston as a brand. Have used them for 15 years with no problems at all. The other important thing is the speed. Go with at least the minimum and will not hurt to go one over.
