what does a knock sensor on a 1992 Prelude even do? and is there a way to by pass it if you don't need it?

I told him he does not but his car does. Kidding anyways the knock sensor is that a knock sensor detects if your valves are knocking out of normal sequence and adjust the fuel igniter accordingly, specially on a high reving engine is important to fix it otherwise you can seize your engine, if anyone is familiar with the old 90's Si engines they would know.
