i noticed my betta releasing bubbles out of his gills....it didn't look normal, he appeared to be freaking and kinda looked like he was drowning for a second. is this anything to worry about?

...i thought i should have included that im pretty certain he wasn't building a bubble nest. i know bettas build bubble nests, i've seen mine do it. but that's not what i'm talking about...there were bubbles coming out of his gills not mouth.

dont worry, sometimes as they get old they lose the ability to make the saliva that coats each&every bubble(nest)so he cant really do this anymore..they get frustrated@trying&just push it through their gills. He shouldn't drown. He just wont be any good to you if you want to breed.
Even some young fish(captive breeding&no practice)don't learn how..&some just cant(like people,really)

Well male betta fish do make bubbles, which float to the top of the tank. They normally do this when they are ready to mate. I had a betta and he did the same thing. I'm not sure about it freaking out and looking like it was drowning though...I can't explain that one for ya.

Betta fishes build bubble nest for 3 considerable motives. the 1st one is needless to say the mating. yet as yours would not have a woman close to, it extremely is no longer development it for mating. the 2d is for displaying out how solid it extremely is while in comparison with different men, just to instruct their power it builds solid nest. And the 0.33 reason it to make a conceal out, those bubbles make the authentic view of the tank would not shows up this fish, it extremely is it build nest upon the tank and hides under it, so as that the individuals who sees from authentic will can't discover this fish, a organic behaviour in wild.

When they are ready to mate, they build bubble nests which become great place for eggs. If you have a female ine the same aquarium, they might mate.
