Is San Diego State University a bad school? I am going there to study pre-medicine, and I am also going to do the honors program. If I graduate with a high GPA, would I be able to get into a medical school such as UCSD?

Not a bad school at all, but obviously doesn't carry any Ivy League clout. If you keep a good GPA of >3.5 and get >31 on you MCAT you will likely get into an American medical school insofar as your interview skills don't totally blow. However in CA, I know it is extremely competitive. I am from Chicago and in my med school class almost half of the out of state people were from CA for this reason. Best of luck to you in your studies.

No, it definitely isn't a bad school; it is one of the better CSUs. Especially from the honors program, you have a good chance of getting into a good medical school. Yes, if you were coming from Yale or Stanford, your chances would be greater, but far more doctors went to schools like San Diego State as undergrads than went to Yale or Stanford. Make sure that you find ways to stand out while you are there; good grades alone may not be enough.

I hope the undergraduate school doesn't matter as much as kids who attend UCs tend to claim. Keep your GPA up and score high on your GREs, and do something to make your application stand out, i.e. experience, research. I'll be graduating from Humboldt State soon, and have aspirations to attend schools on par with the schools you listed, so good luck to the both of us.
