There are two things I would love to see invented/discovered in my lifetime.
First: A cure for debilitating diseases and conditions like diabetes and cancer. Being a diabetic and having cancer in the family it is a bit selfish but you asked.
Second: A true anti-virus software. One that traced the crap to its author, destroyed every electronic device they have access to then chokes them to within an inch of their life. Second offenses would carry more serious punishment. Like a gauntlet comprised of us who have lost precious data to their childish pranks. BTW, there would not be a third offense as the second would prove to be fatal in ALL cases.

A way to forget selected memories. There are some things I wish to forget.
Greatest thing ever invented? Why of course it is sliced bread. Everyone says so. Remember the saying? Greatest thing since sliced bread. Doesn't that just get a rise out of you in the yeast little way? Kind of crusty, but it was the best I could do for a half-baked answer. What the heck, good thing it doesn't cost any dough making these answers, eh?

A recoiler for an oxygen hose. Some people who
are on oxygen machines at home, have a hard time walking
and not tripping on their hoses as they walk around. So that
you have to carry the extra length when you walk back from
one room to where the machine is. Often it snags on things
too and you can get hung up while the nasal piece is on your
face.
The greatest thing, I feel is the automobile. Even tho being
able to afford the gas to fill one, is a challenge. It's gotten to
the point, you have to determine how important it is to drive
anywhere in order to conserve your gas. As a $20.00 bill
won't take the gauge up very far these days. And I remember
when not too terribly long ago, it filled a quarter of a tank.
A close runners up, would have to be the telephone. It was
a toss up for me to choose which one I did for first. Since
each was equally important. I'd hate to think where we'd all
be, if the phone hadn't been invented. Maybe we'd be all
training carrier pidgeons to carry paper messages for us?

A pill that negated all the calories you were eating.
Another one I have always wanted to see is like a line you hook your car onto on the freeway so that on long trips you could just sleep or whatever while your car was "towed" along.
Greatest thing already invented-The Computer of course or more specifically the Internet.

I wish someone would invent a way to extract energy from water. That would create a whole new industry and put all the oil producing countries to their knees! It would make them impotent and they would have nowhere to run!

I wish they'd hurry up and invent that "Beam me up, Scotty" device so I could see my children and grandchildren more than once a year! But for now, airplanes are a great invention.

I wish someone would invent a gauze bandage that stays on dog paws. My dog has a cut on her paw and the gauze I put on only stays there for about 15 seconds. There are bloody paw prints all over the house!

A machine that could print directions on bottles, packages, etc. that a person does not have to reach for a magnifying glass to read. One that could read shampoo bottles even while in the shower. An 800 phone number that immediately directs one to a human being.

A food pill so we wouldn't or couldn't overeat or get indigestion and then obesity wouldn't be an issue ,or heart disease or high cholesterol or any other food related problems.
The best invention is electricity. Without it, nothing much would work anymore including computers ,tv ,appliances etc.
