Jimi Hendrix. Without him there would be no Vaughn or "other".
If one were to define a milestone in R&R history, Jimi Hendrix would have to be considered the most responsible for growth. Through his own innovation, Hendrix transformed the electric guitar into an instrument of infinite sound... He was really the first to develop its use from subtle backup instrument into one that could play harmony, melody, lead, and also be used for obscure sound making. That shift in the electric instruments is what REALLY spawned the growth of Rock.

C. Johnny "Guitar" Watson...all the rest learned from him.
Johnny "Guitar" Watson (February 3, 1935 - May 17, 1996) was an American musician whose long career influenced the development of blues, soul music, rhythm & blues, funk, rock music, and rap music.
Jimmie Vaughn, brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan, is quoted as saying: "When my brother Stevie and I were growing up in Dallas, we idolized very few guitarists. We were highly selective and highly critical. Johnny 'Guitar' Watson was at the top of the list, along with Freddie, Albert and B.B. King. He made magic."
