This is very strange. Maybe they don't want to spook holiday shoppers? Hardly the first story about America I've had to seek out in the foreign press, just a particularly egregious one...

It has been said that economists have predicted seven of the last three recessions. Recession is often a self-fulfilling prophesy. Recession should not be inevitable.
Barring some cataclysmic geopolitical event, the Federal Government has the fiscal tools and the Federal Reserve has the monetary tools to keep the economy adequately stimulated without going into hyperinflation.
Unfortunately, some parties may gain by recession. Politicians love having something to complain about at election time. The news media loves any story better than no story. Some business interests hope a dose of recession will cause the government or Fed to stimulate their sector of the economy.
Being a retired person on fixed income, I would much prefer recession to inflation if it must be one or the other.

Yes, usually around the holiday sales time, there's reduced talk about recessions, etc.
