when they were going to raise taxes on cigerettes, i wrote to several senaters, and asked why they were going after alchahol instead, i was told more people die from smoking than alchahol, aids and something else i cant remember at the moment...now, this just does not sound right to me...everyday all over the world people are being killed by drunk drivers, drunken fighting, drunken suicides, drinking affects brain cells, smoking does not. i never heard of someone getting run over by a smoker. police being called to disrupt a smoking party ( i am not talking drugs) so why the attack on smokers and yet completely leaving the drinkers alone...it just doesnt make any sense to me.

Drinking alcohol is socially acceptable, especially where laws are made and by those who make the laws. Smoking has become generally unacceptable because other people can smell the smoke and it offends them. If people died of second-hand smoke, my generation would be gone, and the generation after that. Everybody, and I mean everybody smoked and kids were subjected to it as well. I quit, after 63 years of non-stop when I had trouble breathing. But, I do not drink because I don't like it and it makes idiots out of nice people...and it makes dead people out of careless drunk drivers!! Smoking doesn't make anybody driving impaired!

The problem is that smoking as well as being anti-social (to asthmatics etc) is 50 times more likely to lead to heart disease (coronary or non coronary) than a non smoker. The chances between drinker and non drinker are significantly lower.
Moderate drinking is considered to be good for the heart, whereas moderate smoking has no health benefits.
The social problems from excessive drinking are definitely a problem though. These can't be tackled from a medical standpoint, but by government policy and restrictions.

Don't believe the crap the politicians feed you. More people die from alcohol than all other drugs combined. The reason they don't go after alcohol is that they get a lot of money from the alcohol producers with the understanding that if we contribute to your campaign then you are to make sure that other drugs stay illegal and alcohol stays legal. The tobacco lobby is not as big as it used to be. The tobacco companies are starting to diversify and get into other products because they know that tobacco is on the way out. It is also more politically correct to bash tobacco than it is alcohol because more people drink, especially politicians.

It has been proven. I think it only makes a persons IQ lower as the person is less able to take in or process information properly due to the damage drugs and drink have caused. Both pot and drink lead to mental health issues. We lose brain cells everyday even thru sneezing
