This is a question that I'm afraid has no real answer, only opinions. Gamers will debate until the end of time which console is better. Fact remains that PlayStation owners will say PS3 and XBox owners will say 360. I find it similar to the debate of people who argue whether a PC is better than a Mac. My suggestion is go with the console maker of your last system. So, if you owned a PS2, get a PS3. If you owned a XBox, get a 360. My reasoning? This way, you'll be in familiar territory and won't have to get rid of any old system games (both systems are backwards compatible).

PS3 is technically superior, and has an integrated Blue Ray player. Unfortunately, it's more expensive than the 360, and doesn't have nearly as many games available. Xbox also has a vastly superior online experience.

I think they're both pretty good. However, the XBOX has a much better variety of games and is cheaper to boot. Furthermore, you're locking yourself in with BluRay technology. Who knows if it's going to be the dominant High Definition DVD player? I'd hate to buy a PS3 and then realize a year later that I just bought a video game console with a Betamax player attached :P

It depends on what you like. Both systems are great with their games and unique exclusives. I'd personally say you the 360 is better because of games like halo, but the Ps3 has games that are Japanese native like Metal Gear Soild 4. So you should choose the system on what you like more.
