Some one said that I always "have a scowl on my face, everything that comes out of my mouth is negative, and I always look sad." They know that my family is Russian, then they said thats why. Why would they say something like that? I don't understand the connection...? I just never have anything to be happy about

Has anyone ever said something like this to you?

It is important to remember that you are what you are and you are Russian No one can ever change that don't let anybody bother you by that...
As for not finding anything to be happy about just look you'll find something if you really try....

people are ignorant and prejudiced.
they will rather put some stamp on your head than rather consider you as a different person
well, not all but many
I don't know why they say that. It's not about you being a Russian. It's actually insulting. It's your right not to have anything to worry about. You don't have to please others.

"What is the connection with Russians being "negative"?"
I think the stereotype is that Russians are nihilists and melancholics.

Of Course; I am an Italian-Irish woman, so I often hear the same things. I have learned to do my own thing without listening to the insults of others. Perhaps some of these insight have arisen simply from stereotyping. Just ignore it an be the person that you were mean to be, honestly. People often criticize because there is something admirable in you and something that they could never be. Think about it.

They are stupid whoever said that .How can they say just because your Russian you are sad all the time? That's like saying because I'm black I'm always poor. You need to stop talking to those people that's just plain ridiculous. Maybe your sad because of your surroundings you need to be in a different location that have positive surroundings.

Such comments are racist and unfounded.People of every nation or race have the same dreams, hopes and desires.Behavior, negative emotion, dirty or clean, good or evil, lazy or hard working are all individual traits. It is pure ignorance to stereotype a nation or race. I'm a caucasian of Scottish ancestory.from the south.I except everyone as equal and good unless there actions prove otherwise.

yeah sure.not once, nor twice but a lot of times. but i don't mind them. there are better things to think about in this world other than their criticisms. But then again, it wouldn't hurt to smile. remember more muscles are at work when we frown and you wouldn't want to look like you're 90 when you're less than half that age.....so smile....

Mexican- I think that every nationality is stereotyped one way or another even though it may not be true. It is the few bad apples that ruin it for the bunch. :)
