Your parents wouldn't have to be over protective if you didn't give them a reason to be.

My parents have never been over protective because I do as I am told and act like an adult. Something I know you're not familiar with.. Stop looking at porn and go to bed.

It's a tough world out there Jacob and children need guidance - parents don't have all the answers and can't be there all the time. Until kids start taking responsibility for their own behaviour parents have little choice if they love their kids but protect them. Wake up!

I agree with you. Parents need to realise they can't sheild their children from the bad things in the world all the time but i can understand overprotectiveness for little kids but not for teens. They need a bit of freedom and it could cause alot of anger and rebellion. It seriously annoys me when my mum gets all fussy and i cant just think its because she cares, i, like others, can only think shes trying to be annoying.

Uhm, my parents are overprotective. I get good grades, participate in extracurricular activities, have a social life, enjoy friendship and community service, and will probably go to an elite university and go into investment banking (*crosses fingers*). Yeah, I'm majorly screwed up. I forgot how getting drunk, pregnant, and arrested is so much better.

I am not over protective. It is my job to make them productive citizens of society. I have to teach them how to act, treat people and to take care of themselves. I have to know that they can take care of themselves and make decisions without me doing it for them. My one sister says that I have made them grow up too fast but they are further ahead than her child who is 5 years older. You cannot shield a child from everything and then expect them to know how to deal with things when they are 18. They must learn this their whole lives.
