Just to rephrase:
"cardstock" is a heavy-weight, thick paper (like the stuff that's used for index cards, greeting cards, etc.)
... you can buy it at office supply stores, or even by the sheet from Kinko's, etc., or at craft/rubberstamping/scrapbooking stores... it's often white or a color
"cardboard" comes in two versions
... one is very thick paper pulp that's smashed and dried into a sheet form, and is often brown in color (unbleached)
.... the other type is referred to as "corrugated" cardboard, which means it has a wavy piece of heavy kraft paper sandwiched between two thickish sheets of flat thin cardboard (that structure gives it more strength but keeps it lightweight)
Here, this may say it better:
cardboard:
a thin, stiff material made of paper pulp and used in making cartons and other forms of packaging.

corrugated cardboard:
a paper product made of unbleached craft paper, with two heavy outer layers and a wavy inner layer to provide strength.

P.S. Sometimes people use the term loosely, so you're never sure what they mean... or they may have learned certain terms for certain types... or certain terms may be used in the business/hobby they're part of

Cardstock is like really thick printer paper. Think of brithday cards you buy. That stuff is cardstock.
Cardboard is paper all mashed up and is usually pretty soft, because the layers between two pieces of cardboard have double-braces(like ones for earthquakes). This is usually brown and is most commonly used to store things, ship things, and package food and stuff.

Cardstock is just thick paper. Cardboard is much thicker--like a board. Cardstock you can put through a printer; you can't do that with cardboard.

when you think of cardstock, think of index cards...it is a heavier weight of paper usually about 110 lbs verses cardboard which makes you think more of like a cardboard box. Hope this helps you out. Staples or Office Depot or Joann Fabrics or Micahels Fabrics and crafts will have both Cardstock as well as cardboard. check the scrapbooking and card amking sectons.
