They all contribute to a civilised society just in different ways
so they should all be paid a decent and livable wage regardless. All of them are valued professions and should be treated as such

That is a really difficult question to answer as all three jobs have merit and have their place in society.
I think that police should be paid more, as they never know when they leave home for the day's work, what will be in store for them. Some of the things they have to do and some of the things they see must be horrendous for them, I don't know how they can continue without counseling on a weekly basis. They potentially could put their lives on the line every day.
As a nurse, I know how hard the profession is. Unfortunately there are not enough of us out there to go around. We are often over worked as far as hours go. However, nursing in itself has changed so much over the past 30 years that I have been associated with the profession. Years ago it was hard work because we had hands on care. Now, however, so much of our work is regulations and paperwork and we have staff that do much of the hands on care. I think nurses should be paid more than what they get, but their jobs don't compare to that of the police.
Teachers, gosh what I can I say about teachers. These poor souls have their hands tied, first by the government telling they can't do this and they can't do that. They spend so much time "disciplining" the children who won't behave that they don't have time to teach the kids who want to learn. I don't envy their position. Then they have to deal with the parents who feel their child/children can do no wrong and it's the teacher's problem and she can't get along with their child. I think they should make a lot more money too.
I look at other occupations that pay more than any of these occupations pay. Some trash collectors make more than these people do. Now I am glad my trash gets collected, however, you don't need a college education to collect trash. There are other occupations too numerous to count.
My point is that these three jobs are all tough and they all required a lot of training -- and we should respect these people and pay them what they are worth.

No I do not think they are paid enough! In this country, it seems the ones who are doing the really important, hard jobs in society are the ones who are paid the least. Most teachers, police officers and nurses train for years to do their job, and are far more committed to their jobs than any others. Wwhy should they put up with bad pay and working conditions? Most people would not like to do that job, luckily we have people who do. If you think it so easy, try it for a while - say over christmas and the new year, you work while we enjoy christmas with our families. You deal with drunks and other idiots, cleaning up after the incontinent, telling a parent their child has died etc etc etc. Fed up with annual incriments - thats another word for a pay rise - don't you get a pay rise every year? More than they do I bet but then, they don't have time or energy to sit on their buts on the computer, nor do they work in cozy offices where the biggest thing to be moaned about is a miserable boss or the wrong coffee!

Nurses because as you say most have a degree and work exceptionally hard under difficult circumstances.
Teachers next as they also have a degree and work under sometimes very dangerous circumstances.
As for policemen, they should take a drop until somebody Proves that they exist. By proof I mean actually seeing one, Not just a photo, One that actually moves.
Traffic police don't count.

They are all pretty important jobs if we want the sort of society that we have.
How has pay been arrived at anyway?
First class footballers get quite a lot of money for kicking a ball about. Newsreaders get quite a lot of money reading the news.
MP's vote for their own pay rises.
Company directors who fail get massive payoffs.
Pay is a farce anyway.
Who sets it and why at the level anyway and why the differential between certain jobs. Isnt that the real question?
Dont forget the really important jobs
armed forces, cleaners, shop workers, sewerage workers, construction workers, lorry drivers, etc all these very important people as well, without whom this society would not exist or be very uncomfortable.

Education level is not the only thing. We should also consider the job nature such as it's riskiness & difficulty. I was a teacher but I also agreed teachers should get least. Basically police and nurses should get same salary but in those dangerous countries police should get more.

i think they should all be paid the same-i know nurses do wonderful work but i think coppers and teachers get by far the most stick-it would be so cool if indeed teachers acted as bouncers but i dont think you realise how hard it is to actually throw someone out of school

I think we are missing the point here. The decision to reduce the pay increase was very difficult to make.
I therefore propose that MPs should be paid even more for making these difficult decisions.
But you can bet the increase in the amount of money going to the police from my council tax be much higher than any salry increase.

If teachers are just "bouncers"- as you claim, then our children's Future look pretty Bleak... -filled with Stupid people getting arrested & dragged off to jail by well paid Cops- or ending up in hospitals with multiple gunshot wounds- & being taken care of by well paid Nurses... So are you SURE teachers should get paid less than everybody else??! :0
