Our school is hosting a Drama/Speech tournament, and I'm assistant to one of the Chairmans. We each have our table for different purposes. What would be cute ideas to decorate for a "Christmas in the Tropics"?

Hm. Good question! Maybe some red and green hula-type skirt crepe paper around the table. And red/green hula skirts on the people manning the table. Coconut cups with red and green straws. Little palm trees or other tropical plants with holiday lights. Pineapples carved like pumpkins with santas or trees or reindeer. Or regular small Xmas trees (Trader Joe's sells 'em) with tropical themed cutout ornaments. Wallgreens has 2' foil trees for $12. You could decorate them with monkeys and birds, etc. Lots of ideas! Target has some stuff, too. Just type "tropical Christmas" into a Yahoo search. Lots of ideas there you can borrow!

Get a plate .. put play sand in it, some seashells (that you can get at any Craft Store) ... some of those little 'paper umbrellas' (like they put in those fancy drinks) to represent the beach scene.

Then .. decorate a Christmas Tree .. but with things related to Beach Life -- make your own ornaments -- little life preservers, some swimsuit shapes, some little beach umbrellas, some shells, some Starfish, some Sanddollars ... and so forth.

This is the suggestion of someone who DOES live near the Gulf of Mexico - - and yes, I DO have some Beachy Ornaments that I've gotten through the years (or made myself).

Hey, you could even use Beach Towels for Table Coverings (if you have snacks out) ... put out Beach Chairs for fun ... and you could even put flip-flops under the tree and cheap sunglasses as ornaments too!

Just go with the theme -- it works!

Seashells, floral wreaths, some of the party stores they sell
those cute Hawaiian skirts, like a grass hula skirt, being that
a lot of people take cruises to the tropics, you might have a picture of a cruise ship, they also have exotic birds and plants.
