this car needs ALOT of cosmetic work, but sounds good to me otherwise. But how bad of a gas hog is it?

The gas mileage is going to be horrible...i bet if you sit at a light, you will be able to watch the gas gauge move down...

No right answer for this question because you don't provide enough info, what gear ratio is the rear end does it have a th350 or turbo 400 transmission, has the car been tuned up,what carburetor are you using, also does the car have a spoiler these cars actually got better gas mileage without a rear spoiler or front air dam,Car Craft did an article on a 350 based camaro a few years back they averaged 17mpg on the hwy and only achieved 13 mpg in town this was on a new motor and drive train.

OK I also don't recall a V6 in the 76 Camaros. They did however come with 250 in line 6 cylinders. If it is an in line 6 any small block will bolt up to the bell housing. You will want to seriously consider a bigger clutch though. I think 80 was the first year for a V6. I had an 80 Camaro that had a 3.8 V6 in it. When I got it someone had already swapped in a 350, and left the three speed. I eventually swapped it for a T10 four speed and a 3;73 posi rear end. As far as the 3 speed holding up it will be fine. Mine was still working when I took it out. I gave it to a buddy of mine who races pro stock roundy round asphalt cars. Bringing me to my next point. That's what all the guys around here that run the smaller tacks run for transmissions, so they must be plenty rugged enough, they handle 600 HP 358s.

its not going to be that great on gas, you,ll average around 15-18 on it,maybe a little better depending on the condition of the engine,i had one that got around 19 and i thought that was pretty good, anything from 14-20 will be good 350 engines are weird,no two will average the same mileage, good luck.

About 15 to 20 mpg. Tune it up and change the oil. 350 cid is a good engine. A great engine and easy to modify for speed.

This 3200 lb 350ci car should get 20-23 mpg on the hiway at 59 mph without the a.c. engaged, on a steady, level roadway with little to no wind. If you have the stock tire and wheel package and no alignment and weight issues then this is the real world experience of millions of 'heavy chevy ' motorist's. My stock '70 monte averaged 18mpg's from sacramento to k.c. on the northern route. (300hp 350ci turbo 350 auto 250 rear axle fully loaded trunk and all seats filled!).
