You are a smart person well beyond your age. The question is " What is interim opportunity and what is opportunity which offers longevity? Also, if opportunity is taken, is it the thing which will make you happiest?

When you're an older person and have been out in the real world for a long time, you come to realize the luck actually means being in the right place at the right time and knowing the right people. That's after you see less deserving people being promoted over more qualified people simply because they happened to be a relative of the boss or that the boss liked them more. It would be nice if more people became successful due to being smart and talented but sadly, it often doesn't work that way.

Luck is hard work. Hard work is just simply every day life. But, opportunity therein lies the thing that can make or break your luck and hard work. Without it your life goes by you in a meaningless type way. So learn to recognise GOOD opportunity and grab it while you can.

You work hard and do all the right things and then... out of nowhere you fall ill with a chronic and disabling illness. So much for 'opportunity'.

It seems to me that 'Luck' is = Good Fortune = Being in the right place at the right time, more or less.
