With all these school shootings and gun exchages don't you think its time that teachers have guns...of course it would be under lock and key like that safe from Lost if anyone watches there where it would only be able to open with a master key which the teacher would have at all times!

Of course the teachers would have to learn how to shoot it first but that shouldn't take too long???

So my question is....

wat do u think about teachers having guns??!??!?!

I'd rather not let the teachers have them. It's the police's responsibility and even if you say they suck, at least they had training and have more of a right to shoot someone.

If the teachers had them, what if one day they go insane and shoot someone? i know its unlikely but i can happen.

besides, if kids knew this, then yeah, of course, even with a masterlock, any kid can get through them, it just takes a while but its possible.

i get your idea, but just leave it to the police, that's why they are there, they try to do the best job they can.

The last thing I would ever do, would be to bring my gun to school. It takes a minimum of two years of firearms safety classes before you are certified to carry a gun. The day I am told I have to bring it to school, is the day that I stop teaching. The last thing I would ever do is point my gun at anyone, much less a child. I would rather run at the child and pull his gun away from him risking my own life, than to EVER point one of my guns at a kid. Many schools now have a police officer in them, we used to. He didn't even carry his gun in school. Guns and schools don't mix. There was a politician not to long ago that suggested the same thing. He didn't get elected by a landslide. There's a reason for that. Having it under lock and key, doesn't matter. You can't get to it in an emergency so it wouldn't do you any good anyway. Some districts are teaching the kids to attack the attacker. Throw everything you can at the guy; books, pencils, chairs desks and everyone swarm the person at once. He's going to shoot some, but with that much distraction the chances of fatal wounds become much less. If the attacker has a machine gun, he could feasibly kill all in a matter of seconds, but if everyone rushes him at the same time, that number depleats. I know it sounds radical, but I think that it is something to think about.

It is certainly better idea than when many of my collegues were in school and they were teaching kids to get under their desks if we were under a nuclear attack. That makes sense. If you were standing up, you and the entire building around you is completely and instantly turned to dust, but those kids that were hiding under their desk, yeah, they are just fine and are suffering no ill effects from the radiation! Good thinking.

You can't teach with a gun on your hip. You can't lock up anything in a classroom the kids can get their hands on it.

I own 30 guns. I am a teacher, but classrooms and guns don't mix.

Get an armed security guard.

Or let some administrator who doesn't have kids in their office have a gun in a gun safe. Kids sneak into my desk and briefcase all day long.

No. The last thing we need is more weapons in school. And if they need one, there's no chance to retrieve one from a safe place. If you protect it well enough that no student can get to it, neither can a teacher in an emergency.

Believe it or not, statistics show that school violence has been going DOWN since the 1980's. It just gets a lot of press. But it's declining. No need to encourage more.

Partial answer : maybe.

the further you get in school, the more responsible the student, so maybe. At the preschool level, you should not have to worry about a child grabbing you weapon.

''teachers would have to learn how to shoot it first but that shouldn't take too long???'' More is better.
It seems to work in Thailand and Israel: see the link.

Teachers are human; they have moods and tempers just like everybody else in the world. Certain students were put on the earth to drive these teachers crazy. You do the math. Do you want to be in the room with an armed teacher whose husband just walked out leaving her with four children and a mortgage while your classmate taunts and irritates her? I don't think I'd would want to be there!!

I don't believe they should. The temptation just may be too great for some kids.

I want you to know that there's kids out there who can break into anything. Do you really want to risk that?
