You know, where it's amazing finding out about someone you're in contact with but the chances of actually getting face to face with them are astronomically small, and yet hope persists in spite of all.

Yes, I have. Twice actually. The internet has given us the world at our fingertips, allowing us to meet those who we otherwise would never have known. Call it fate, destiny, luck, or God's will, I am blessed by knowing them. I have some friends online, that I love and talk to more than my (literal) next door neighbors. You may not be able to choose who lives next door, or who works with you, but you can choose who you communicate with online. Therefore, those you like become those you love, and the only barrier is the physical distance (which may be great or small). If you do not intend to do more than talk, then you are better off keeping your (emotional) distance as well.
I plan to do more than hope.

I talk to all kinds of people I would like to meet. And would absolutely love the chance to meet some of them face to face.
