Our party is no longer a voice for the liberal agenda, it is a vehicle for thugs whose only principle is lust for power. The leadership focuses not on promoting the liberal agenda but on embarrassing the Bush Administration. The administration is able to embarrass itself without outside help and does so regularly & spectacularly. Raise the tax on capital gains? That always results in loss of jobs, hardly a liberal goal.

The thug-ism is clear in the plight of poor black Americans. The 3 greatest obstacles to achieving equality are education, healthcare & illigetimacy. The Party is in hock to the teachers' unions, the main cause of the education problem. Inner-city healthcare is scarce in large part due to high malpractice insurance costs - & the Party depends on the trial lawyers. Political correctness precludes addressing illegitimacy. Just point at the nearest white Republican & yell "racist," and the black voters will continue to vote for the white thugs. I want my party back!

Lots of answers! First, let the Republicans fix their own party. Second, parental involvement in schools is actively OPPOSED by teachers' unions, which are run for the benefit of their leadership. Third, I voted for George McGovern in 1972 and my politics have not changed, so if I'm a neocon that says quite a bit. As for Hillary Clinton, she is the archetypical thug. Barack Obama is probably the best choice because his positions seem based on principle, unlike Clinton, Edwards, Biden, etc. As for "vote left," I don't know what that means. Liberalism is in part belief in the power of a government to do good for its people. Where do I get off talking about black Americans? I am one-quarter black, exactly as black as Tiger Woods.

The Dems need to refocus on those things that made them great. We have to stop being GOP Lite. We need to stop baiting the GOP and come up with real solutions to this nation, putting the country first and the party a distant second

You are way off the mark here, First of all, teachers are not the main cause of the education problem! Parents that don't take an interest in their childrens education, over paid administrators and government money doled out to schools without supervision on spending are the problems.

Poor Black Americans have opportunities, but what have they done with those? I have seen countless numbers of poor refugees come to this country with absolutely nothing , not even knowing the language and in a few years of hard work make a living, learn the language, save money and become educated.

Black voters need to do what Bill Cosby has been saying, and rightfully so, "get real".

you may get 10 factors for asking that question. thank you to pass it began in 1972 whilst the youngsters circulate in a in wonderful condition of naivete controlled to keep away from the policies and wrest administration of the occasion from the occasion bosses who carried out enterprise in smoky rooms. the youngsters have been given George McGovern nominated as their anti-war candidate [ Which surely made sense considering McGovern had flown 35 missions over Europe because of the fact the pilot of a B-24 and as such knew some thing approximately war] any way the offended occasion bosses deserted McGovern in droves and he proceeded to lose the election to complicated Dicky. The Democratic occasion hasn't been the same for the reason that. to be triumphant as quickly as returned the Democrats could abandon the novel weeny faction and declare the sane center floor this is okay to desire abortion yet no longer previous the thirteenth week [ it relatively is surely what Roe v Wade says ] helping something previous that makes Dems appear as if infant killers. If the Dems desire to help gay marriage make it an equivalent safety undertaking relatively than a existence style undertaking The working people of u.s. desire a occasion to champion their reason and the time is nice for the Dems to reclaim the historical past that became as quickly as theirs . Jobs are going over seas, unlawful immigrants are lowering residing standards and hard earned pensions are being devalued and what to we get ? the extremists of the two events calling one yet another grimy names BTW classic Repuplicans have the same situation, who speaks for them ?

You don't sound like your traditional 21st century liberal. Your party has been hijacked by many different interest groups (black caucus, gay caucus, environmental lobby, union lobby, feminist lobby, etc.). You have to take care of that problem before you can get your party back. These people funnel A LOT money into the party and until that stops, you will be dealing with the same problems.

This is actually a pretty good summation of the reason some people voted for Ralph Nader.

However, you will agree that there is a discernable difference between the administration of George W. Bush and the probable administration of Al Gore.

I *HATE* the two party system - it ceases to be Democracy and in some ways you end up getting the worst of both worlds (tyranists and democratists).

By the way, its not just disenfranchised Democrats - Republicans too.

I agree with you. My suggestion is this: vote for the most viable left-leaning candidate available. (Personally, I think this is Barack Obama). They may not be ideal, but here is the thing: the decline of the Democratic party happened gradually. A little more right. A little more right. Eventually we got what we have today. Changing the party is not going to happen overnight, either. You have to vote left, and other candidates will see this and start inching back. Also, vote out incumbents as often as possible. This sends a message to the party that you want REAL change. Above all, get involved with the party, campaigning, and voting. That's the key to success. That is how Bush won the White House in 2004 despite his many gaffes: grassroots campaigning.

"we liberals"?

your rant was right out of Conservative radio:
blaming unions (which Conservative pro-Corporate administrations have weakened)
"raising capital gains"? Bush lowered taxes for the wealthy by cutting Taxes on Investments (Capitol Gains, Dividends, Inheritances and Corporate Taxes) -how is returning to the tax levels of the surplus creating Clinton era: "raising taxes"?
"malpractice suits" not Health Insurance and Pharmacuetical Profits the problem with healthcare? another right-wing lie!

edit: The Democratic Party was liberal when Franklin D. Roosevelt looked after working Americans by starting job creation programs-Public Works and a retirement safety net-Social Security, which has worked despite right wing lies.
The Democrats moved to the Pro-Corporate economic right with the Democratic Leadership Council candidate Bill Clinton, whose support of NAFTA, the WTO and other "free trade" pacts (Corporate managed trade) moved millions of jobs overseas and increased both the trade defecit (much more so with W. Bush continuing this policy with China) as well as CORPORATE PROFITS.

There is a Liberal Candidate running for President, Dennis Kucinich, and by no coincidence he is not getting Corporate Cash and is marginalized (asked one mandatory question in debates, then ignored) by the Corporate media who favor Hillary and Guliani.

YOU ARE NOT A LIBERAL

(I agree with you about Hillary being a Thug)

I found over the years that the dem party wasn't worth having. Oh, I used to believe all their "pie-in-the-sky" dreamworks when I was young and still in school. Then I graduated with a political science degree and worked for a few years, and then a few years more, and soon, albeit not soon enough, realized how farcical they are, and found the odds better over on the other side. I've voted Republican for decades now. I'm not entirely happy, but, I'm happier than with the dems. God Bless you.

I think you question has sooo much truth in it!
Get rid of the radical leftists that want defeat for America. 1)Quit with the special treatment of minorities and
2)do something for the majority of America for a change
3) elect and select candidates for the congress and President that represent America instead of the small, tires, wacked fringe groups like gays, feminists, lesbians, greens, and the ACLU
Then you might regain the trust of many responcible mainstream Americans
