I have a 2000 Lexus RX 300 and lately the fan has been making really loud screetching noises when I turn it on for the heat. What do you think might be wrong? How much do you think it will be to fix?

thanks

I agree that the bearing (most likely a bushing) is going bad. If it's not too much work to get it out you can lube the motor shaft and it will get rid of the noise and save you a lot of money. If it's hard to get to (I'm not familiar w/ that particular model) it may not be worth what it costs to pay a mech. to do it. Best thing to use if you go this route is a dry lubricant like silicone spray. It will last longer than oil will..

It sounds as if one of the bearings inside your heater blower drum is damaged. Prices, gosh I shouldn't tell you. Off shore owned car company parts can realistically cost 100% more than an American made part. If you doubt me (which you probably do) go to autopartswarehouse.com and see what OEM starters and alternators cost. Now compare them to any American Ford Chevrolet or Chrysler.
