That a Malaysian was caught carrying illegal substance into Australia and sentenced to 1-3 year jail?

I have always watched Australian Border Security TV show and be glad that Malaysians never committed drug trafficking. (or they must be smart that they are never caught). This news shocked me. I always think highly of Malaysians - the worst custom offence the commit would be overstaying in Australia on an overdue tourist visa.

What do you think?

oh for more information, read this:

p.s - just dont tell me she is set up....

PP - i dont recall being checked at any malaysian customs at all - going in or out of the country.

anyway, she is not carrying the drug, just substance that could make the drug. hence the light sentence.

to GarisHalus - you truly made me laugh. thanks for that. anyway why do you care so much whether or not i have been to australia. me reading australian news is much better than you staying in your *ahem* cubicle and read only your bigoted mainstream news?

i have a thousand reasons to sympathise with you too but i'd save you some faces here :) respect yourself, at least once, will ya?

Anderson - Australian custom officers DO do random checks on passengers arriving on international flights. while they are more vigorous on checking passengers arriving from Vietnam/Thailand (for its high popularity in drug trafficking) I personally have been checked once. lol especially if you appear suspicious or fake stupidity.

There's this syndicate I read few years back in UK regarding international drug pushers are paying young, pretty and professional women all over the world to carry drugs.

They would entice these women with huge amount of cash and give them original designer's items such as Chanel suit and LV luggages. All they need to do is wait at the airport acting pretty, parcel or bag containing substance given to them and convinced these airheads that everything is taken care of, board the plane and if they are not caught, they will be carried off to a posh place/ hotel of the destination and voila, another reward awaits.

These ninkapoops are driven by the money and designer's items forgetting that they are actually a live bait. Majority of the girls caught actually knew what they are carrying but I guess when it comes to money and few Prada here and Hermes there, they'll become a complete no-brainer.

To all ladies out there, please don't be swayed by outrageous invitation. Nothing is too good to be true. Don't attend to bags that are not yours and don't carry anything for anybody even if it means for a second.

There is nothing amazing here. The only weird news is that the drug isn't something popular in Malaysia. 3 days ago, an immigrant Pakistani living in Canada killed his daughter (a teenager) because she didn't want to wear the hijab on a regular basis. That is giving a very bad image of the Islamic faith. That is unusual in Canada, but the drug thing is as frequent as getting drunk twice a year.

It is good that she was caught. She is lucky she was caught by Australia and not Malaysia.
People who use illegal drugs are just as guilty as those who supply them. Look at all the rock stars who use cocaine: they are supporting the illegal drug trade as well as being poor role models.
