I have been casted as a swing dancer in a show that takes place in the 1940's. We do 4 dances each of which are around 10 minutes long with the exception for the opening 'swing' that is 3 minutes. We only have 2 rehersals to learn the choreagraphy befor we reherse with the entire cast. I know none of the choreagraphy and I dont know what to do.

I do know the swing. I am a swing dancer, I take swing dance classes. The dancers are called 'swing dancers' but we do not only do the swing. They are choregraphed 'up beat' couples dances.

You were "Cast" as a dancer. not casted. How did you get cast if you did not audition and presumably know how to do the dance??? did you try asking the director of the show for a plan of the choreography? do you know the basic dance steps and timing of the Swing? Do you have any of the music you will be dancing to? Ask the director what music you will be dancing to. download it. practice at home before rehearsal

the basic swing if you don't know it is : side step to one direction, side step to the other (touch other foot close to the one you stepped onto, rock step with one foot slightly behind you. so, it is side touch, side touch, rock step.; side touch, side touch, rock step. which direction you start on depends onif you are the lady or the man. the lady goes to the right first, the man tothe left. The couple will move around in a circle while doing the steps.

practice a lot at home so you feel comfortable with the music and can pay attention to the person showing you what to do at the rehearsal. relax . have a lot of fun. you can do it!

If you are the only one who doesn't know the choreography, your partner(s) will be able to help you out. If everyone in the group is in the same situation then let the choreographer worry about it. Don't assume you're the worst one.

try hanging with different people then ask them for help sometime out of the cast thing.
