im buying a 1999 audi a6 with 305000 kms. its been well maintained, so how much life does it have left? good buy or no? AND THE BIGGEST THING OF ALL; the guy who has it has been using supreme gas in it. can i switch down to unleaded or would that do something. is it ok to downgrade since its not the turbo. its just the 2.8l V6 Quattro.

Premium fuel is recommended. I would not want to down grade it. You may not see much different in fuel economy but for sure you will loose lot of performance.
using lower octane gas may cause engine to knock. The engine computer will retard timing to prevent knock but in a long term it is not good for the engine.
If you use around 100 gallons of lower octane gas a month, it only saves you around US$20 a month.

Well it is probably not a good Idea to downgrade because In the manual it states that 91 is the minimum allowed in order to prevent the fuel injectors from becoming clogged . If it is a good buy depends on you. If you have a trustworthy mechanic close to where you live and the price is good then there is no other reason not to unless it needs alot of work. I hope I helped

Use synthetic oil and change the timing belt when your service schedule indicates, and the motor can last indefinitely. The coolthing about Audi engines is that they have piston squirters engineered into the block, that keep the wrist pins constantly lubricated. Unless your engine has a lot of sludge (which you can easily get rid of) those engines just won't wear. Only use Audi coolant and use the fuels that your owner's manual prescribes. I use Mobil because it will litterally "drive your engine clean".
