I have 2 ball pythons. One is about 1 1/2 yrs old and soaks all the time. It only comes out of the bath to eat and then goes right back in. The other one is about 8 months old and it has only been in the water one time that I have seen. I even check on my snakes at night and the big one is ALWAYS soaking. Is this a sign that something may be wrong with my snake or
is this typically normal of ball pythons. I have onlyhad my snakes for about 5 months so I am still new at this and I am trying to give them the best care possible. **The big one has not shed at all since I've had it, is this a problem? Thanks in advance for your help. And to those who want to be smart and tell me to call a vet, save it.

Snakes tend to soak before they shed or their skin is irritated.

Check it for mites and ticks.

it could be fine, most ball pythons do not soak that much but some have been known to love water, the fact that it hasn't shed however, may indicate a skin infection of some sort. Often snakes soak when something is irritating their skin, and a 1.5 year old snake should have shed at least once in a 5 month period. First check your snake for any parasites because they could cause the irritation. If he does not shed soon you might want to consider taking it to a vet to see if it has an infection of some sort

the snake is probably getting ready to shed or its not humid enough..

buy a little misting bottle and mist water on him, and all over the glass, sand, etc.
repeat that three times a day until he sheds

o and if his eyes are a milky color onstead of clear then hes definately getting ready to shed.. if this doesent work maybe consider taking him to the petstore that knows something about reptiles

well it could possibly b 2 things um it could be sheding witch no supprise! and it could be you have your heat lamp over the water dish so its looking to get warm and the only place is the water dish but the not shedding for 5 months could be bad a healthy herp should shed ever 2 weeks so it could be the diet so how often do you feed it? what do you feed? and is it consistent? and go to your pet store and get mite remover and remove all the bedding a replace it and any sticks limbs if real sterolize them if you dont know how e-mail me and clean the water dish and tank with clorox.

Could be a number of things. the snake could be wanting the humidity. The snake could also have mites. Are there any tiny black dead bugs floating in the water?

Most commonly it will soak that much if it has mites. Check carefully and treat if needed. Here's an excellent helpful site:

that is particularly time-honored. once you walk to %. your new child up from college and snicker to your self while no one else is around through remark you intend on leaving for the main suitable answer you intend on identifying on...that is once you be responsive to in case you have been sucked into this dark vortex nicely-called Polls & Surveys.

Have you checked it's heat? It might just be overheated.
