How many of each tiles are there?

My son had a total melt down with this question. I tried and tried to explain and here was my explanation...however was I correct?
600 divided by 2 is 300
so 300 plus 80 is 380 square tiles
so 300 minus 80 is 220 triangular tiles
total tiles is 600
Did I show him correctly?

Is there a website that can help ME teach him better? His math is getting TOO complicated for me even.

sorry no,
600/2= 300...this is correct
divide the difference in the tiles (80) by 2 to get 40
subtract 40 from 300 and add it to 300
to get there are 340 sq tiles and 260 triangular tiles

no you did not. 220 triangular tiles and 380 square tiles has a difference of 160.
use the formula x + 80 + x = 600
2x+80=600
2x= 520
x= 260
there are 260 triangular tiles and 340 square tiles.

square tiles = (600 + 80) / 2 = 340
triangular = (600 -- 80) / 2 = 260

let x = triangular tiles
x+80- square tiles

2x+80=600
2x+80-80=600-80
2x=520
x=260
x+80=340
260+340=600

No, there need to be 80 more square tiles than triangular.

t + s = 600
s = t + 80
Now substitute in for "s"
t + (t + 80) = 600
t = 260

Now substitute in for "t"
s = (260) + 80
s = 340

x - squares
y - triangles

x + y = 600
x = y + 80

y + 80 + y = 600
2y = 520
y = 260
x = 340

square: 340
triangle: 260

In your solution there are 380 squares and 220 triangles - there are 160 more squares then triangles. Not correct :-(
