I am a Christian, however not to the extreme that I would publicly protest this movie or anything. However, I definitely believe in God. A lot of people have been saying that The Golden Compass shouldn't have Christians all worked up because it's not about what they are saying it's about. However, here is a direct quote from the author of the books: "If there is a God and he is as the Christians describe him, then he deserves to be put down and rebelled against."
And he specifically says his books are about killing God as you will see in the added details and the direct quote from the author. I understand there is freedom of speech and all that and I respect the author's right to make the books and movie what they are. My point is that some of us Christians aren't saying this movie doesn't have the right to be made, just that we disagree with it and it just shows how far our country has fallen from God when that's what America was founded on. It really is sad. God Bless!

People say this is just like Harry Potter but in those books it doesn't say anything bad about God or good about the devil. The author of the books on which The Golden Compass was based said: “I’ve been surprised by how little criticism I’ve got. Harry Potter’s been taking all the flak. I’m a great fan of J.K. Rowling, but the people - mainly from America’s Bible Belt - who complain that Harry Potter promotes Satanism or witchcraft obviously haven’t got enough in their lives. Meanwhile, I’ve been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive than anything poor old Harry has said. My books are about killing God.” This is a direct quote. He admits his books are about killing God so don’t say that they aren’t. For more information on all of this, check out this website: http://lookingcloser.wordpress.com/2007/11/20/the-golden-compass-questions-ive-been-asked-answers-ive-given/ which was actually talked about by someone NOT against the movie, just spilling the facts.

Wow, I agree with you! I don't know much about the movie, and i haven't seen it, but I thought it looked pretty good. Now I'm not so sure...I prefer books like The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe because of their strong Christian base, so not sure if I'd get along with the Golden Compass...

first of all...i have seen the movie and yes, it is a good movie. a little boring on the side but very interesting. now, to answer your question, i think we christians should see a movie as a movie and nothing else. when you say movie, we should bear in mind that these things DO NOT intend on brainwashing us into some ideas which the producer/author/director wanted us to believe. Yes they are making fuss about this movie is the fact that there is something about the Catholic Church in here. and in fact it does. but from what i can understood, the allegory here is from the time the church is still persecuting thier own flock or what is commonly known as the Dark Ages and the reformation age. And, if you are a foloowing Catholic, you would know that the Roman Catholic Church admitted it's mistakes for those ages. so the church itself did not banned the movie. i guess it up to us free minded thinking people if we would follow what hollywood would always tell us

Did you know that those Christian people against The Golden Compass haven't even watched the movie or read the book at all!?!? Think of it this way; the Christians don't want to watch a movie of "evil" at all. I saw on the news. The Christian Bishops also said that they liked the movie a lot and thought that the movie was well made. Gosh! It's just a movie!

of course if human beings carry to a cheished perception and it somewhat is attacked then they might not be susceptible to help it. people who're announcing it somewhat is basically a action picture possibly are no longer retaining sturdy perspectives of Christianity. If some thing they have been into grew to become into attacked they won't prefer to help it the two. i desperate this week that i would not spend money to confirm the Golden Compass. no one instructed me to try this it grew to become into my very own determination. If yet another Christian is going to confirm the action picture it somewhat is as much as her or him. i would not tell them they must no longer see it. i might only tell them what i understand approximately it. it somewhat is a topic count for a guy or woman's very own conviction by using fact the Bible would not limit a beliver from seeing movies customarily. they could evaluate extra. I even have examine numerous articles approximately it and seen the promo (the 1st 5 minutes) and that i understand sufficient to appreciate what it somewhat is approximately. Animals are observed as demons interior the outlet intro of the action picture. Animals that are depicted as pets or associates are being surpassed as as a demon which might make youthful childern greater accepting of the belief of demons. If there is an prepared boycott so what? Is there no longer freedom of the clicking and freedom to no longer partake in a number of that press additionally? If this action picture isn't a huge financially grossing photograph then it somewhat is going to convince some action picture manufacturers to no longer make a number of those movies. I only desire people who boycott have their very own pesonal information on the subject of the action picture in any different case they gained't seem that rational to protest some thing they won't understand.

I think you should read the book The Golden Compass because what people say about it can be very misleading. Some people get very mad and say things that aren't true about the books. Also, I've heard that the movie has most of the religious stuff taken out.

Why don't you go rant on someone else's time.
I'm a Christian and I love The Golden Compass!! Great books!
It's all about thinking for yourself. Don't let anybody else tell you what to think. Not this person, not anyone. Follow your own heart.
Read the books before you judge them.
