1920 Berlin, hands down. The 20's were gorgeous! Ah, and before WWII.

San Fran for sure...it has way more to offer than Vegas. Take away the gambling, and there's not a lot there that makes it different. San Fran has pro sports, beaches, fishing, the redwoods close-by, you can still find concerts & shows to see, and a lot more reasonably close by side trips.

1960 SFO would have been fun, except for all the coffee shops offering "authentic" beatnik jazz, which consists of bongo drums, a flute and people clicking their fingers. Did you know that the term beatnik wasn't even invented until 1957, after sputnik was launched. Prior to that they were just called beats. But I digress. SFO from about 1965 onwards would have been an absolute mindfuck. Much more fun than sitting around in a smoke-filled cabaret with a bunch of nazis listening to Joel Grey and Liza Minelli. Although that would also have been amusing.

Yeah Hedy, I'm totally aware of that. But I didn't actually say that the nazis were around in 1920. I merely suggested that dropping acid and listening to the Dead, would be preferable to my only impression of Berlin anywhere near that period. BTW, thanks for the thumbs down. Incidentally, Joel and Liza weren't around then, either.
