Okay, so here's the thing:
I've had a tube of Clinique High Impact mascara for at least a year and haven't used it since just a few days ago. What kind of scared me was the fact that when I washed it off, a couple eye lashes came off as well. Well, they came off by me lightly tugging at my lashes to ensure I got all the mascara out. I used Almay's oil free eyemakup remover pads. The next time, I tried removing my mascara with Dove soap and water and the same thing happened: lashes came out from my lightly tugging to ensure complete mascara removal. Is it the year old mascara or my removing techniques...or both? Any reccomendations?

I use Clinique High Impact also, but change mine every 3 months and I've never had a problem like that. It's definitely your old mascara, the ingredients are too dry and are making your lashes brittle! Definitely get a new one.

When I remove mascara I use baby oil. That is just what I prefer, I find that it takes the least tugging and rubbing to get it completely off especially when using a waterproof mascara. I believe constant use of mascara and removal on a daily can weaken the lashes. Some mascara's are heavier than othersm and some peoples lashes are just naturally thicker/thinner than others.

Mascara doesn't start to go bad until it's opened and exposed to the bacteria in the air and on your face, so it isn't the mascara. I've never heard of anyone removing mascara by tugging at their lashes, and it makes sense that if you tug on them they come out. You need to be patient and gentle when you remove your mascara. I soak the cotton ball with remover and let it sit on my closed eye for about 10 seconds, and then gently dab and wipe off the makeup. Then I wash my face as usual. This works quickly and easily for me.

If your mascara is dry you should get rid off it. You should by an oil makeup remove and the mascara should come off easier, don't use the almay pads you have to rub and that might make it fall out. I have tryed both and us clinique oil liquid remove it comes of much easier.

it is probably your removing techniques. You shouldn't be tugging on your lashes while they are still wet, especially if you use warm water to wash them off because the warm water would probably make the hair follicles bigger and make it easier for the hair to come out.

keeping mascara for a year...that's the issue

it's probably turned into glue!

THROW IT AWAY
you can get an infection, and lose some eyelashes

get some new stuff! replace it every few months!
