My daughter is 19 months old, and she recently was in the ER for passing out and hitting her head on the cement. She had a bad not. They did a CAT scan, and said she needed to see a brain specialist. They also found a severe urinary tract infection. I was told this was extremely rare in a child her age, and it is very likely that her kidneys could shut down. She has been really grumpy, upset, always pale, and she keeps spacing off, like extremely bad, worse than I've ever seen. Does anybody have some words of advice on how I should handle this? I don't know what to do, and I am so stressed I'm worried that I am going to do something wrong. Any type of advice, or words of comfort, would be appreciated.

Fainting, infection, moody, pale, spacey... I don't want to make you more concerned in an already concerning situation, but I must ask, they DID to a CBC (complete blood count???) in the ER, right? If not, please have one done by your pediatrician tomorrow. Those are some of the more common symptoms of pediatric cancers. Most of them have good response to treatment, if the diagnosis is timely. Seizures are another option but don't explain infection or pallor.
At the worst, she gets a blood test and it is FINE. Just please, for your sake and hers, get it done. And then get to the neurologist ('brain specialist') ASAP. Find it (whatever the problem may be) and fix it- best of luck, you'll be okay- that's why YOU are HER mommy :)

19 month olds should not be "spacing out" - this could be a lot of different things. They should also not be pale.

I would take her to the emergency room since it is now night. I would call the pediatrician you saw and get him to get the brain specialist involved asap. I would not leave the hospital until you get a specialist to look at her. Sleep in the waiting room if you have to.

Honey, I have 6 children and out of the 6 I have 2 girls, they both have had urinary tract infection at a very young age too..As for your daughter being pale and spacing out, that is not good...She could be having some kind of seizure (not always with shaking movements).... I would find me a very good childrens hospital to take her to..If you do not have one then I would be checking in to Brain specialists for children..There is deffinatly something wrong and it is not good...I hope everything turns out ok! Good Luck and God Bless!

Follow any instructions that the Doc gave you. Sit down with a pen and a notepad, mentally go through your daughter's daily routines and write any questions you have about any activities, hygiene, diet, water intake etc. and make sure to address these issues with the Doc. You might ask if you should give her showers as opposed to baths, any foods she should avoid, any she should be eating, how much water you need to give her. You might also ask if you should let her have some "diaper-free" time every day to keep her from getting irritated further. You won't do anything to make her worse, you just keep your appointments and follow the instructions they give you, and she'll be FINE. Every parent has been through a bad scare with their kids at least once, and 99% of the time, things go well. You'll be OK too Mommy, just hang in there!

I would take her back to the hospital. My son had a testicle operation and they went him home telling me everything would be fine. But he kept gettin really pale and spacing out and falling asleep more then normal and I had a gut instinct something was wrong and I took him in, and he had internal bleeding from the surgery. Half of his blood had bled into his stomach and if i had not brought him in he would have bled to death. Im telling you from experience if u are not comfortable taking care of her and you feel like something is wrong go into that hospital and ask them for help they will help you

I'm really sorry to hear that, the worst thing in the world u'd want is something bad happening to ur child. You're not doing anything wrong, you're doing everything you can, you did take her to the dr and that's all u can do, if u don't like one answer make an appt with a different dr. To me sounds like its autism, but I really don't know, hun. I really do hope that she does get better, you have to stay strong though FOR HER, ok? I will keep u and her in my prayers, and I hope everything will go back to normal soon.

I would take her back to the hospital. I dont' want to advise you on this as it sounds like there are some issues here that are beyond the normal advise that is asked for about a baby with the flu. I would take her down again

Take her back to the doctors for further checking. If you don't think the diagnosis they give you is right, get a second opinion. If she keeps spacing out for prolonged periods and its getting worse she should go to the specialist right away.

GET THAT BABY TO THE HOSPITAL !!The thing you are doing wrong is asking what to do. Get her to the proper people who can treat her for whatever ailment or ailments she may have, The sooner the better. You are in no position to make a medical decision. So Get 'er done.

The spacing off sounds like she's having a sort of seizures...bring her back to the ER...insist on answers...If they aren't giving you the answers you want...maybe look into a children's hospital. Good luck!
