Thermablades are 'temperature controlled' not 'heated'. (in order to be heated, the temperature must be incresead above the ambient temperature. The ambient temperature in NHL arenas is mandated to be 58 degrees F (although it never feels that cold))

The skate blade is kept at a constant temperature of 5 decgrees C or 41 degrees F. This is slightly above the current friction level between skate and ice which is about 3-4 degrees celsius and 38 degrees F.

Martin Lapointe and an Edmonton Oiler who's name I forget have been using them since the start of the season. They are pleased.

Definitely a good idea for an NHL pro. At $400 they're not too practical for the rest of the world unless they get a lot cheaper. They would be effective...the science makes sense and is quite easy to prove. The thing is that they are all about improving speed by reducing friction so for a forward they're great, for a d-man, they're somewhat helpful but not to the same degree, but they are completely useless to a goalie.

the game is getting to technical. It is a cool thing dont get me wrong, but i feel that we are seeing more equipment and tech then players. I am not much of a fan of the skates... but they are still cool. As for advantages: there probably is an advantage, but i cant see it being too large. I would imagine players would be better on their skates, but probably not too significant.

mind over matter. chuck this gimmick next to the vornado thingy for your car. In theory it works but I'm not buying it. Ask yourself, how long really are your blades contacting the ice in a stride? Less than a second. Too short of a time for it to work. Even so, I doubt you would notice anything.
