ok...so i did a lab in chem. and i dont understand two of the questions..well first things first...we are determining the formula for magnesium sulfate...

i already posted this once but i have another question...

i also meant to ask why it is necessary to let the evaporating dish cool before measuring the mass?

and thanks sooooo much to the others that have already helped me with my questions! your heroes!

if you're weighing the dish while still hot, evaporation is still going on.

When cool, you know that the evaporation has stopped, hence a more accurate answer.

there is no need to let the evaporating dish cool. it would be wise to let it cool, if you don't want any burns. in my chem class my lab partners and I just place the evaporating dish on scale after its been on the burner, just for the sake of time. but it is not necessary to let the glass cool.

I'm not entirely clear on the details, but if I understand correctly you probably need to let it cool because hot glass can burn you.
