Yes, I think so. I think as soon as we find a cheap way to launch stuff into space (like maybe reusable launch rockets, or magnetic propulsion for launch) and it becomes a profitable enterprise for businesses, there will be all kinds of people and equipment on the moon and in space/earth orbit.

Just my personal opinion though.

It's an interesting question. If you had asked this in 1965, when the moon program was well underway, probably many people would have thought that there would be colonies on the moon by 2007. That didn't happen, and the moon landings stopped after a very short time.

Now there are more nations planning trips to the moon. I think there's a chance of an occupied base on the moon within 30 or 40 years, but tourist hotels are much less likely. (If they do exist, only people like Bill Gates could afford to stay there.)

I have heard stuff like that for the last 40 years. Back then, I thought we would have at least had manned flights to Mars by now.

I doubt if there will ever be commercial space flights or hotels and stuff on the moon. Definitely not colonies. It just seems too impractical to me.

Too expensive.
Everything will have to be taken up there. Each flight to the Moon would cost 5-10 billion dollars. It would cost billions of dollars to set up a permanent colony on the moon. How would they recoup the costs? There is no reason to mine the Moon. We have plenty of minerals here on Earth. There is nothing rare on the Moon which can not be got a lot cheaper here on Earth. They would have gone back for more research by now if it had been worthwhile.
I think we will see colonisation of Mars before the Moon.

hi dark ,,, just wanted to say ... nope ... and yes you are optimistic... which is good ... it seems to me that [almost ] everyone love the things of the world now that who would want to get up and put on a space suit just to make it around gee... not even BILL GATES... maybe for a month but home is just to comfortable for some people .... your kidding the Wii and all the other stuff coming up by then... very few people worry about the planet earth and keeping it clean ... gee can you imagine trying to keep stuff in a place where you need more than just a space suit. lol your cute .. yoli have a great holiday... GBU..

I would think the moon colonies won't be there for commercial reasons. Just like their ancestors, the new colonists will be there for political/religions freedom. They are more likely a bunch of rich and eccentric billionaires.

Yes, or at least the beginnings of one. That's part of NASAs plan. They're shooting for a lunar polar base by 2024. We'll see what happens. Good question, have a star.

Not if 2012 happens. Everything is supposed to come to an end then! A new era with less than wonderful things will come to pass for mankind...and it will involve the Nefhilim's return...
I wouldn't worry about 30 or 40 years from now, just worry about the next 5-10....we'll be lucky if any of us survive!

I have to side with the "no" gang. It's just too difficult to do for the reward it would offer. Too dangerous as well. One failed supply mission could jeopardize the entire colony ... when you're out of air you are in big trouble!
