The most common type of color-blindness studied in genetics problems is a recessive allele found on the X-chromosome. A female with colorblindness has the genotype Xb Xb. A male with colorblindness has the genotype Xb Y. Females with normal vision are XB XB or XB Xb. Males with normal color vision are XB Y.

Notice that the allele is not on the Y chromosome.
