Toews is a lot better than Kane at this point, and that comes from some personal conversations I've had with Denis and Dale this season, as well as other GMs.
Toews is a better skater in traffic, has excellent puck sense, and an excellent touch around the net. Kane on the other hand leads all NHL rookies in giveaways and is 3rd in the NHL. Already this season Denis is giving extra shifts to Toews (He had 9 shifts in the first period to Kane's 7). Contrary to what a previous poster said, only Robert Lang has been a more accurate passer this year for the Black Hawks (Lang's at 81%, Toews is at 78%, Kane is at 71%).
People forget that Kane hasn't played at the same level as Toews. Toews played at the World Championships last year, and the University of North Dakota played a couple of exhibition games against pro teams as well. Kane's best competition came at the World Juniors. Toews also has that rare double of a World Junior Gold and World gold in the same year (last done in 1979 by Makarov, Krutov, Larionov, and Kasatonov I believe)
Both players look like they are the real deal (both are still teenagers) and I expect very good careers out of both of them.
As I write this, Toews just played a perfect pass to Havlat that Havlat converted into a goal!

Kane, because he can pass better than Toews but Toews scores a little more goals. Toews doesn't pass as well but both
a good and rookie of the year will be one of them.

i'm patiently waiting to work out each physique come and say "the place is Crosby and Ovechkin in this debate" genuine question : Jonathan Toews, captain, chief and the main important reason the team is so a tactics, Kane is the wingman in Toew's fulfillment.
