Good observation, and I believe the Tigers realize that as well and they will address the issue before the start of the 2008 season.

As a Yankee fan, I can understand your point. A team can have an amazing offense, but fall short every year. Teams with great offense can pound on bad teams all year long, but when they get into the postseason, it's all about the pitching. If you have good starting pitching, and a shut-down bullpen, then you have a shot at winning it all. Look at the '02 Angels, and the Red Sox this season.
I think that if Zumaya were healthy, the Tigers would be in great shape, but he is going to miss at least half the year. Don't forget, your team has some good arms, and Zumaya will eventually come back.

It all turns out when you have the best offense in the Major Leagues. They will do what most teams do, and thats save their money, contain a dominate offense and use the farm system. They will probably grab a relief pitcher during the trading deadline and a good Util, but I'm guessing they'll get some pitchers. Cmon, there are still 3 months left of the off-season and they can still pick up some dominate lefties.

A better bullpen to win the World Series?
Better pitching in general to get past Cleveland. You Tigers fans think too far ahead...your mian competition is pitching stacked Cleveland who is now as we speak in the mix with the other teams going after Dan Haren-with as much if not more to offer then the other teams...I'd concern myself with that first. But yes, you guys need pitching. Todd Jones...that says it all. And I'd not plac emy eggs in Dontrelle Willis basket just yet. From what I have seen after Justin Verlander-your pitching is ineffective.

Make deal with a team like the White Sox getting Bobby Jenks for Juan Batista, or the Padres to get Trevor Hoffman for Jason Grilli and Virgil Vasquez.
They are Better Relievers out there, you just have to look.

There is a ton of middle relief out there. The problem is, most of it stinks. It's not about getting "everyone they can get." It's about getting guys who perform. Just about every team needs middle relief. It's probably the most underrated positon in the game, because the starters are such babies today.
