The parking brake light is also the brake system warning light. It could be that you are low on brake fluid, or there could be a problem in your brake system! I would guess that you either have a fluid leak, or your pads are worn and should be replaced soon! Have the brakes checked by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible!

If your car is an automatic, you may be having engine troubles. If your car is a stick make sure that you are disengaging the p-brake all the way before you start driving. Either way it is usually a sign that your p-brake cable is stretched and not pulling the catch against the p-brake button that turns off the light. I had this problem with my manual after I pulled the p-brake out of the dash cause the cable broke.

that brake light is also an indicator of low fluid or low pressure in the brake system. Check the brake fluid level (top it off with appropriate fluid according to your owners manual) and have the brake system inspected by a mechanic.

There's a switch on the parking brake handle. It sound like the switch is broken. If you were to take apart the parking brake handle assembly you will probably see a connector. Try disconnecting that connector. With the switch disconnected if the problem goes away, it is the switch that's broken. If the problem does NOT go away, then you have another short some where (probably need a pro at this point).
Good Luck.

You have two choices:
1) Always drive in a straight line, without touching the brakes.
2) Have a mechanic work on your car.

I would suspect that the switch that controls the lights is likely mal-adjusted. Normally, it is located on the brake pedal.

I'm not the best person to ask, but it sounds like it could be a crossed wire or a short circuit... :\ Good luck!
