About 2 days back, VVS Laxman got hit by Shoiab Akhtar's high speed delivery and ended up being retired hurt.

Who in this case would be at fault?

Is the bowler to be blamed because he should be aiming for the stumps, not the batsman elbow (since elbow is much higher than stumps) ?

or is the batsman to be blamed because he could have stopped the ball with his bat, but despite having a bat he still failed to hit the ball on time?

or it is neither the fault of bowler or batsman and its pure accident?

No.

Reasons:
Bowler is aiming to hit the pitch so therefore, its not Shoaib Akhtar's fault.....

The batsman of course. They're the ones who are meant to be hitting the ball. I love bowlers who injure the opposition's batsmen, it obviously helps the team. It's no intentional, but it's still the batsman's fault.

The question is wrong.

It's no one's fault. Bowler is bowling to get a wicket and the batsman is there to face those deliveries. If gets hit by the ball then it's ok. It's a part of the game. No one's fault.

I'd say it's a pure accident. While the quicks do not hesitate to bowl fast bouncers, their intention is to intimidate the batsman. They generally don't intend to hurt the batsmen, but sometimes it just happens.

As for saying it's the batsmen's fault, well you try facing a couple of Akhtar thunderbolts.

In normal course the batsman has to be blamed as he is supposed to defend himself against any type of delivery bowled by the bowler. However, in some cases it can be pure accident also.

Unless its a beamer its no one's fault and its a pure incident. But when the batsman gets hurt due to beamer its bowler's fault.

Nobody has fault on such an incident. It is purely an accident. the bowler has every right to bowl a bouncer and the batsman has to be prepared to face such delivery .

Normally, its not bowlers fault, but Akhtar is a jealous, cheat and drug driven man, i feel Akhtar bowled bodyline to hit the batsman since he couldn't get him out

intentional assault by Akhtar

It is the curator's fault to have prepared an uneven pitch, and also fault on the part of VVS.Laxman failing to wear the arm guard.
