Well im not a doctor nor am I qualified to make accesments so you shouldn't take any merit in my responce and should consult a doctor. Now for my responce. I'm unsure how thick we are talking about but you should try your best not to let it get infected and to take out the peice and go in or go in to have the doctors take it out. You can try numbing your foot in icey water and try to take it out or try under running cold water but that is the only ideas I have. Pull it out slowly so it doesn't break and clean it up with soap and water then periode and banage it. Well Adios go to the docs. bye

You need to see the podiatrist. He or she will be able to evaluate the foot to see how far the wood went in. Because it is a puncture from wood, you should go get a tetanus booster from your primary care doctor. In the meantime, keep the area covered with Neosporin and a band-aid until you see the podiatrist. Hope this helps!

If it is large or very deep or hurts excessively to take out go to the ER and have them take it out.
