But either way, he was no longer a member of the Philadephis Phillies, but who knows if he would have gone back to the Chicago White Sox, but Kenny Williams didnt' do enough to lure back to the South Side of Chicago, he jsut seat around and some other genral manger scooped him up, and maybe Williams didn't want to bring back Rowland.

This was NOT a trade. Rowand was a free agent and as usual the Phillies organization let another blue chip player get away. Typical of the Phillies mind set. Just string the fans along, never committing to winning crap! It's all about the bottom line and the hell with the fans. I've always rooted for the Phillies even though I'm a Yankee fan. (My South Jersey upbringing) and every time they have a chance to do something good for the team and the fans, they drop the freakin' ball.

The Phillies really needed to sign Rowand. In my heart I just knew they wouldn't do it. I really pisses me off!

The Phillies didnt trade him! They never ever would have. He was a free agent this year, and he did in fact file for free agency. The Phillies offered him arbitration [automatic one year and a negotiator chooses fair salary] but Rowand declined. He signed with the Giants and now we have the Giants second round draft pick. We had no choice, we couldn't afford Rowand's huge asking salary, and other teams could. We had no idea all he wanted was 60 million and 5 years, he approached us with 89 million and six years, thats way too much for his performance last year! We'll be fine, we don't need him, he helped, but he wasn't what held the team together. He clearly didn't want to be here, and if that was the fact, he shouldn't be here - he doesn't have the heart.

feenafee - yes, i know he was a big help, and it will hurt the team, but if you read that, i said that he helped he just wasn't the rock of the team. With Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, Victorino and Myers, we'll be just fine.

maybe it would have been terrible if they had actually traded him
he is no longer under contract to them, his contract expired and they didnt offer him a new one, in baseball that call that a "free-agent" it means that rowand can sign with any team he wants, so he signed with the giants, no trade was made at all, the phillies got nothing in return
im not sure how you could have not known rowand was a free agent, since his has been one of the most talked about names all offseason

Well its was a good move because Rowand didn't fit in with the Phil's they are a team that moving forward Rowand is moving them back so the Giants made sense because they needed someone to rebuild that team and Aaron Rowand can do it.

the Phillies did not trade Aaron Rowand. the Giants signed him, because he was a free agent for his contract was up. yes it was a bad move on the Phillies part in my opinion not to re-sign him, but Pat Gilick doesn't like long term contracts.

Phillies fan <3 i have to disagree with you on this one: you said "we don't need him" wrong when you said that. he was a huge part of getting us to the NLDS both ofensilvey and defensilvely and had the right attitde to play the game.

wow a very hyper and jealous mets fan. yea you just wait and see buddy. we won't need you to collapse to win the east this year. 2008 is going to be tlike the pennant winning Whiz kids

Wake up!!!!!

Rowand signed with the Giants as a free agent, he was not traded.

Now, you can go back to sleep and dream of your first Super Bowl Championship, which is light years away.

I think you sound a little too annoyed for someone who didn't even know Rowand was a free agent after last season.

This was not a trade. He was signed as the Phillies lost him to Free Agency. I predict he will have and amazing breakout season with the Giants.
