can someone explain to me please?

If you heat the blades more water will melt under them and there will thus be less resistance. Speed skating, ice boating and bobsledding have had experimentation with blade/runner heating, although usually by propane torches, etc.

The organizations that run those sports have seen fit to forbid all that on the KISS principle and I imagine hockey will get around to that sooner or later. Would you rather watch a guy play, or watch the equipment manager change his batteries?

I work in construction and the guys on site were talking about it today. Apparently, there are 4 unnamed NHL players using them to enhance skating performance. They have some sort of battery in the blade that heats it up to provide better 'traction' on the ice.... pretty cool ;)

I have heard which players are wearing Therma Blades so they are not unnamed. Although I can't remember who they are.
