My 4 almost 5 month old son has already been well into his solid foods. I started him a lil before 4 months just because of how big he is. Right now he's 27 1/2 inchs long, and weighs about 20 lbs. Anywho, he loved the rice cereal at first, but once I gave him the oatmeal he just hates the rice. He is eating vegs and loves them. But when I try to sneak in some rice cereal he spits it out and trys to his the spoon away and just freaks out. Is it alright to just give him the oatmeal as his only kind of cereal?

that is why there is a varity of cereals out there for babies my son would only eat the mixed cereal so dont freek my son is just fine and is now close to 3 years old as they grow their tastes change so try new things and if he dont like something or wont eat something dont worry about it cuz i am sure if you try something else he is bound to like something and if he is eating i would not worry about it at all

If you want to use up the rice cereal, mix a small amount in with the oatmeal, and his other food. It's okay he doesn't like the rice anymore. there are some foods that you probably don't care for anymore, so why can't he.

my daughter (5 months old next week) doesnt like rice either she prefers oatmeal so i would say its normal.....just like how im sure there are foods you dislike....it was the same case with my daughter once she tasted oatmeal bye bye rice! i also mix some fruit or veggie with the oatmeal too and she gobbles it up! so yes it is more than ok to just give him oatmeal heck thats the only cereal my daughter eats :)

yes, all babies have likes and dislikes. but if you want him to continue to eat rice cereal, then mix a little rice cereal in with the oatmeal and gradually increase the rice cereal and decrease the oatmeal. my daughter loved the pureed gerber veggies, but she disliked the solid veggies i gave her when she could chew. so, i put cheese on the veggies, and she gobbled them up. as time went on i put less and less cheese on them, and now she'll eat a variety of veggies without the cheese. that's just my daughter, and i don't know if that'll work with others, but it's just a suggestion.

He knows what he likes, and he obviously prefers the oatmeal. Do you like every conceivable variety of food? Neither does he!

perhaps it would help to prepare the rice cereal a bit more softer just like the oats.

Why not--I'm sure there are foods out there that YOU hate and others that you like!

I wouldn't worry about it, hey at least he eats--there are TONs of questions here on "my kid doesn't eat" what to do" questions...

Hey so you have a kid who LOVES oatmeal--apparently you are really lucky btw!!

Count your blessings!!

Sure they are just like us, they just don't like certain foods. He will be ok with just the oatmeal.

, Do you like liver, how 'bout spinach, maybe broccoli, fried grasshoppers/ Did you ever NOT LIKE SOMETHING?

Sounds like your boy must be a chip off the ol' block.

People (all people) have likes and dislikes, When it happens within the food chain, our likes and dislikes are usually not fatal.
