I just recently bought a book on his whole life, although I already knew about the whole accident, and telss it piece by piece how. He had gotten laminitis at first in his back left leg after breaking his back right leg and after a while he was showing improvement. On January 28, 2007, he was deemed safe to go home and recover, he no longer needed any care at the vet's. On the Day of January 29, 2007, he had a great set back and the found laminitis in his front two hooves. They then made the decision that it was best to put him down and they did.

Barbaro had stepped forward laminitis, an often deadly hoof ailment, in the two one in all his front toes. His suited rear leg, the broken one, have been inflicting his soreness in the previous days, and his left rear leg had laminitis besides. He certainly did not have a stable leg to stand on. The evening previously he grow to be euthanized, Sunday evening, he refused to place down for the 1st time in months. He grow to be telling to docs that he grow to be merely in too lots soreness. Dr. Richardson suggested from the beggining that if he confirmed them he grow to be in too lots soreness, that he could not cope with in anymore, they might placed him down. They did the ultimate project; each and every little thing grow to be going downhill rapid. RIP, Barbaro.

Barbaro broke his foot in a race after spraining it a few months before- as you probably know- it's hard for horses to recover from breaks!!! Also, he got a hoof infection and was put to sleep at the vet's. They made a movie called Barbaro if you want to see the rest. But Barbaro had a brother, and he is expected to be like Barbaro!!!

You might be confusing Barbaro with Ferdinand. Ferdinand was a Derby winner that was sold to Japan and later ended up going to slaughter.

No he was put to sleep after an 8( i think it waz in this area) month fight . he won the kentucky derby then false broke in the preakness then when the gates opened his jockey pulled him up in the first few hundred yards because he broke/dislocated his fetlock

He was euthanized by a veterinarian...

But as for a previous answer about famous race horses not going to the slaughter house...try to ask Ferdinand about that one.

Do you believe everything you see on "youtube"? Barbaro was humanely euthanized after failing to recover from his injuries.

He was injured in the Preakness Stakes last year, thta cost him his life. He shattered his right hind leg, got lamanitis in his other hind leg, and 8 months later, he got laminitis in both front legs. He was in too much pain to go on. They put him down that day.

Well, he broke his leg in a race and they put him in one of those sling things. He was actually doing quite well and i think recovered fully from it but then developed some type of lung disease or something had some kind of lung issue. (something with breathing problems) I did a whole report and made a website on him for school.
