I am just the opposite of painfully shy... I am extremely gregarious (outgoing and friendly)...

I used to be when I was young. But now that I'm old, I just don't give a damn. Being shy stinks, and it is a costly anchor around your neck both socially and financially. I seriously advise you to seek some psychological help if you can possibly afford it now while you're young - I'm assuming you are young.

Not doing so and remaining shy will cost you. Shy people are taken advantage of in so many ways that those ways are uncountable.

I really hope you can overcome this problem. It took me the best years of my life to do so. I'm so sorry there was no professional help when I was younger. Best wishes. I'm rooting for you.

Painfully shy, like today I had to pee so bad in a meeting I was afraid to get up because people would stare at me, I finally got the nerve to get up but I was so embarrassed.

I was until I was 22.
I was so bad in college that I would either sit in the balcony and write a journal (by myself) or play piano all alone in the chapel.

Most people grow out of it for the most part.
The only negative things that I still have are low self esteem (although nothing compared with before) and a fear of calling people unless they are family.
I don't mind making friends though now... although I don 't really want to have many friends. The ones I have are good friends though.

I used to be shy, but when I let one rip when i was presenting to the class I was shy, but I had to say something. So i said, Its all natural! And from that i learned that being shy won't get you recognized.
