I just receieved a letter that they will be widening the road across my home. It says that there will be partial taking of the property. What i dont understand it how much can they take? My house is located pretty close to the road already, so i dont know if this will include the house too. PLEASE HELP ME! I dont know anyone else who could.

If they were actually going to take the house, the letter would most probably have indicated such. The municipality would pay you fair market value for the house and probably include some cost of moving expenses as well.

You can only ask to find out how much of your land they will need to widen the road. If it's a concern to you, investigate with the planning commission or roadways commission in your municipality.

My brother that lives in CA had a smaller home that sat fairly close to the road on his ranch where the larger home he lived in was. The state took the space where the smaller home sat ad tore it down to widen the road. They pay you whatever they want to and there isn't anything you can do about it.

Go down to the city hall and ask to see the plot map. And see if they are taking your property. They are required to purchase the property unless the map already shows the street widing. If that is the case see when this was done. Go to an attny to protect your rights. good luck

They can take as much as they need to make the road wider... I know that is a crummy answer to hear, but it is true.

You need to contact them and see what their plans are for your house - if any.

The city can take as much as they want , but they have to give you a fair or above price for it.

unfortunatly ALL of it.
so ruled the Supreme Court.
contact the highway dept in town, county or state u live in. they can and will tell u.
