Well sometimes goodbyes are a painful thing as in when you lose a loved one due to death. Anyway sometimes it's best to just tell a person what you are feeling while you still have the chance as you never know when that day will come when you don't have that chance anymore.

It's supposed to mean that you're parting in good favor, and that you'd be happy to see the other person again. It's been whittled away to insignificance over the years due to overuse, and it's become rude not to say it, so we've lost track of the original purpose.

normally i would say that i dont like good byes but if you lost someone, thats all you wish you could have said!

It gives you a chance to tell your friends that you love them before you have to separate. It's always better to say goodbye before you leave.
